Pre-Licensure Supervision and Clinical Consultation

For the uninitiated, the difference between clinical supervision and clinical consultation can be confusing.  Clinical supervision is guidance and accountability provided to practitioners who are preparing for their clinical license, which will grant them the ability to practice clinical work independently and without the need for clinical supervision.  Clinical consultation is a relationship between independent clinical peers, which provides guidance and an extra set of eyes and ears for cases and professional development based on experience.

Nate provides comprehensive pre-licensure supervision for clinical social workers throughout their full pre-LCSW supervision period. He also supervises licensed professional counselors (LPCs) for up to one year. In addition, Nate offers consultation to newly licensed therapists seeking support as they build their practices and to clinicians transitioning from non-clinical roles into clinical positions, whether in their current workplace or private practice settings.

Core Areas of Expertise

Nate focuses on developing a strong clinical foundation for practitioners in the following areas:

  • Assessment and Diagnosis: Crafting precise and thorough clinical evaluations.

  • Rapport-Building: Strengthening therapist-client relationships through empathy and trust.

  • Treatment Planning and Execution: Leveraging evidence-based and innovative modalities, including cognitive, behavioral, emotive, insight-oriented, and somatic approaches.

  • Trauma and Substance Use Awareness: Addressing mental health challenges, trauma, substance use, and medical factors that affect therapeutic outcomes.

  • Treatment Efficacy and Discharge Planning: Ensuring impactful interventions and ethical discharge processes.

Nate prioritizes the well-being of therapists, recognizing it as an essential yet often overlooked element of effective clinical supervision.

Therapeutic Modalities

Nate’s extensive experience spans multiple therapeutic approaches, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Reality Therapy

  • Flash Technique

  • Rapid Somatic Pendulation (a trauma-focused approach he developed that is efficient, minimally invasive, and highly effective)

  • Jungian Active Imagination (a precursor to Internal Family Systems)

  • Pastoral Counseling

  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

  • Structural Family Therapy (SFT)

  • Imago Therapy (for couples)

  • Bowenian Family and Couples Therapy

In group supervision and consultation sessions, Nate fosters collaborative learning, enabling participants to benefit from peer insights and varied clinical perspectives.

EMDR Practitioners: Important Note

With over 30 years of experience in EMDR, Nate is a seasoned expert in this modality. However, he is not an EMDRIA-approved Consultant or Consultant-in-Training. As such, consultation hours with him cannot be used for EMDRIA certification. Despite this, his deep knowledge of trauma-informed care and EMDR techniques makes him a valuable resource for clinicians looking to refine their skills.
